The primaries for the position of Chairperson of Local Council One within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Amolatar faced a mix of challenges and successes, with certain areas experiencing unopposed candidacies.

Reflecting on the electoral process in her village of Awinypany B, Hon. Dr. Agness Atim Apea, the area’s Woman Member of Parliament, noted that while many positions were filled without competition, the election overall was characterised by a spirit of collaboration among NRM members, culminating in a peaceful electoral environment.

Dr. Apea expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the unity displayed by NRM members in her area, emphasising how this camaraderie contributed significantly to the smooth conduct of the elections. However, she did not shy away from addressing concerns raised by community members.

Notably, she highlighted that individuals with disabilities felt unrepresented in their village.

Despite their names being included on the voter registration list, they claimed that their voices remained unheard during the elections, prompting a call for more inclusive practices in future electoral processes.

In parallel, Mr. Ongonya Boniface Pule, the Administrative Secretary of NRM Amolatar, provided insights into the broader elections across the region.

He reported that the electoral proceedings took place smoothly in 581 villages, though some challenges arose, particularly concerning missing names on the voter registry.

These issues prompted several individuals to withdraw from the elections, highlighting the need for continuous improvement in electoral management.

Mr. Ongonya also took the opportunity to commend the commitment of the area Members of Parliament affiliated with the NRM.

Their active participation was recognised as a positive aspect of the election, as was the interest shown by various candidates eager to stand under the NRM banner.

This engagement is crucial for fostering democracy and ensuring that diverse voices are considered in local governance.

The NRM primaries in Amolatar thus reflect a range of experiences. While the organisational efforts and unity among members were commendable, the calls for improved representation and accessibility remain essential for the growth and authenticity of democratic practices in the region.

As discussions continue, it is imperative to address these concerns to ensure that future elections are not only peaceful but also truly representative of all community members, including those with disabilities.
