On March 1, 2025, the vibrant essence of Lango culture resonated through Gulu College of Health Sciences as the Lango students triumphed at the school-level cultural gala competition.
Their exceptional performance not only earned them first place but also secured their representation at the prestigious national cultural talent tournament set to take place in Kampala. This anticipated event, organized by the National Health Institutions Cultural Gala, will be hosted at Butabika School of Psychiatric Nursing, commencing on March 15, 2025.
The exhilarating competition saw Lango emerge victorious, outshining fellow contestants from Acholi, who claimed second place, followed by Busoga in third, Olur in fourth, with Teso and Bugisu rounding out the standings. The success of the Lango students at this cultural showcase highlighted their dedication to preserving and promoting their rich heritage.
Denis Okuta, the Chairperson of Lango students at Gulu College of Health Sciences, expressed immense pride regarding their win, stating, “This victory not only highlights our unique cultural identity but places Lango as a prominent tribe within the diverse tapestry of Uganda.” He further acknowledged the unwavering support of Eng. Dr. Moses Odongo Okune, whose contributions played a crucial role in their achievement. “We are immensely grateful for his guidance and support throughout this journey,” Okuta added.
Modesta Adong, who leads the ladies at Gulu College of Health Sciences, shared her enthusiasm, noting that this victory opens up new avenues for Lango students to excel across various platforms. She expressed hope that their participation in the upcoming national event would not only showcase their cultural richness but also inspire other tribes to embrace their traditions.
Minister Emmanuel Okii also praised the Lango students, remarking that efforts like these not only strengthen community bonds but also enrich the overall cultural landscape of Uganda. As preparations intensify for the national tournament, the Lango students stand poised to embrace this opportunity, ensuring that their culture shines brightly on a larger stage.
In a few weeks, they will carry the spirit of Lango to Kampala, ready to demonstrate their talents and the beauty of their heritage to the entire nation.
