Amolatar celebrates Kioga County’s Dwog Pacu Cup victory in second edition

On Tuesday, 4 August 2026, Amolatar Town was filled with excitement as thousands of residents gathered to welcome home the Kioga County players who won the second edition of the Dwog Pacu Cup.

The festive atmosphere swept through the streets, with some fans camping along the roads overnight to show their unwavering support and celebrate the team’s victory.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Obonyo Magwar, officially received the trophy at his office, where he praised former Kioga County Member of Parliament Junior Okot Betek for his contribution towards the team’s success.

He credited Okot Betek’s dedication and efforts as key factors in guiding the players to victory.

“Okot Betek’s contributions remain memorable, and we urge the people of Kioga to continue collaborating with him for future successes,” Obonyo said.

Obonyo also commended the players for their hard work, discipline and commitment, which brought the prestigious trophy back to Kioga County.

In his remarks, Junior Okot Betek emphasised the transformative power of sports, noting that many countries have achieved significant progress through investment in sports development.

He highlighted the important role the government has played in supporting the sector.

The celebrations began early, with residents welcoming the trophy from Ocero. As the team travelled through Odyak, thousands of supporters lined the roads, creating a vibrant procession to catch a glimpse of their heroes and the coveted trophy.

The procession arrived at Amolatar Town Council at around 7pm, where a large crowd had gathered to celebrate the achievement.

The trophy was later taken to the RDC’s office before being escorted to Alemere, the residence of Junior Okot Betek.

Due to the late hour, plans to take the trophy to Namasale were postponed.

Junior Okot Betek confirmed that the journey to Namasale would continue the following day at 10am, allowing more communities to join the celebrations and share in the achievement.

The enthusiastic welcome and celebrations reflected the unity and pride among residents of Amolatar and Kioga County, driven by their shared passion for sports and community spirit.

The Dwog Pacu Cup victory is not only a testament to athletic excellence but also a source of hope and inspiration for future generations.
