Amolatar welcomes Dwog Pacu cup win for second edition

On Tuesday, 4th August 2026, Amolatar Town was brimming with excitement as thousands of residents gathered to welcome home the Kioga County players who clinched the Dwog Pacu Cup trophy for the second edition.

The festive atmosphere filled the streets, with some fans even camping on the roads overnight to show their unwavering support and joy.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Obonyo Magwar, officially received the trophy at his office, expressing high commendation for former Kioga County MP Junior Okot Betek.

He credited Okot Betek’s dedication and efforts as pivotal in leading the players to victory. “Okot Betek’s contributions remain memorable,” Obonyo remarked, “and we urge the people of Kioga to continue collaborating with him for future successes.”

Obonyo also lauded the players themselves, acknowledging their hard work and commitment that brought the prestigious trophy back to Kioga County.

In response, Junior Okot Betek emphasized the transformative power of sports, pointing out that many countries have thrived through investment in sports development.

He highlighted the significant role the government has played in supporting this sector.

The celebrations kicked off early, with the trophy welcomed enthusiastically from Ocero. As the team made their way through Odyak, thousands lined the roads, creating a lively blockade to catch a glimpse of their heroes and the coveted trophy.

The procession finally arrived at Amolatar Town Council around 7 PM, where a large crowd had gathered in anticipation.

From there, the trophy was taken to the RDC’s office before being escorted to Alemere, the residence of Junior Okot Betek.

Due to the late hour, plans to take the trophy to Namasale were postponed.

Junior Okot Betek confirmed that the journey to Namasale would commence the following day at 10 AM, ensuring that more communities would have the opportunity to celebrate this remarkable achievement.

The enthusiastic welcome and heartfelt celebrations underscore the unity and pride within Amolatar and Kioga County, fueled by their shared love for sports and community spirit.
