Four groups of soya bean farmers in Amolatar District have received a total of 3,280 kilogrammes of Mak Soy 6N seeds under the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project (UCSATP).
The seeds were supplied by Junemore Company on 15 October 2026 and stored by Naro Holding Limited before being presented to the farmers and district stakeholders.
Speaking at the seed presentation ceremony, Dulson Samuel Okello, the UCSATP focal person in Amolatar, said the beneficiary groups were Anamido Farmers Cooperatives, Alyecmeda, Abonyo Youth and Gene Soya Beans Farmers.
Okello explained that each group contributed 20 per cent towards participation in the project, with each cooperative contributing Shs4.186 million.
He added that the government contributed a total of Shs76.918 million, bringing the combined contribution to Shs96.132 million.
He further noted that members of each group would receive nine items included in the project package.
The Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Sarah Tyan, commended the farmers for contributing to the project and demonstrating knowledge of agriculture.
She encouraged them to use the resources effectively to improve agricultural production and household incomes.
The Assistant Principal Secretary of Amolatar District Local Government, Susan Ayura, urged the beneficiaries to use the project package for its intended purpose and cautioned them against diverting project resources.
Amolatar District Vice-Chairperson, Magret Olul, urged other farmers to make similar 20 per cent contributions so that they, too, could benefit from the project.
Meanwhile, Production Officer Francis Ojok Abu observed that rainfall patterns had become increasingly unpredictable this season. He advised farmers to assess the situation carefully before deciding whether to plant immediately or preserve the seeds for the next planting season.
Odyek Francis, an Agriculture Officer from Arwotcek who represented the Senior Agriculture Officer, assured the farmers that the seeds met all the quality standards.
He said germination tests would be conducted and the results made available within four days.
Mark Lega Yusuf, the supplier’s representative from Junemore Limited, confirmed that the company had delivered the required seeds.
Representing Alyecmeda Farmers Cooperative, Ayuli Dickens thanked all stakeholders for supporting the farmers.
He particularly commended Dulson Samuel Okello for his instrumental role in helping the groups secure the UCSATP package.
