Former Amolatar Lcv contestant arrested over illegal lake fishing

A former LC5 candidate for Amolatar District, Okello Dicken Good Year, affiliated with the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), was apprehended by the military on Lake Kyoga.

The arrest took place yesterday, Wednesday, at Kiryanga landing site Acii sub county Amolatar district.

Reports indicate that Okello was detained for allegedly using illegal fishing equipment.

The UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit conducted an enforcement operation during which Okello and his associate, Mr. Ogwok, were taken into custody. Olimo Ojwiny Richard, the local LC1 chairperson of Konya in Acii Sub-County, confirmed the incident and noted that it was Okello’s first visit to the area for fishing.

According to the local authority, both detainees have been moved to an undisclosed location, and their current whereabouts remain unknown as they have not yet contacted anyone from their homes.

Efforts to obtain a statement from the UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
