Showers of love charity hands over seven drainable five stance latrine in Amolatar

In a significant advancement for sanitation and hygiene, the local non-governmental organization Showers of Love (SOL) officially commissioned and handed over seven drainable, five-stance latrine blocks to several schools across Amolatar District on Thursday, 13th August 2026.

This multi-million-shilling project, completed within six months from February to August 2026, marks a collaborative co-funding effort between SOL, its international partner Surge for Water, and local communities who contributed toward realizing these vital facilities.

During the commissioning ceremony, the host headteacher AmolatarSecondarySchool, Mr. Denis Odur Obia, praised the organization for its clear impact and transparency, noting that while many groups operate mainly on paper, Showers of Love has proven to be a genuine and reliable partner.

While multiple primary schools benefited from the sanitation drive, Amolatar Secondary School stood out as the sole secondary institution to receive a new latrine block in this phase of the project.

Mr. Clement Okot, Showers of Love’s implementing partner and project consultant, provided a technical overview, emphasizing how the team overcame challenges such as unpredictable weather and varying levels of community co-funding to deliver high-quality latrine blocks on schedule.

Beyond the seven latrine blocks, the partnership with Surge for Water has significantly expanded Amolatar’s broader water infrastructure.

Together, they constructed 14 additional latrine facilities, bringing the district-wide total to 70 stances.

The initiative also donated 10 boreholes to the Amolatar District Local Government (ADLG), rehabilitated eight existing water sources, and supplied clean water filters to households.

Mr. Okot singled out the community of Nalubwoyo for their exemplary positivity and active engagement in the water project components.

Likewise, Amolatar District Water Officer Mr. Okabo Syidi, who oversaw the construction and rehabilitation works, commended the founders of Sowers of Love and the school administrators for their smooth coordination.

He highlighted specific beneficiaries, including Omara Ebek Primary School, Abwockwar Primary, Acii Primary School, and Amolatar Secondary School

Representing the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Principal Assistant Secretary Ms. Susan Acio expressed gratitude to both Showers of Love and Surge for Water for supplementing government programs.

She affirmed the district’s strong commitment to maintaining an enabling environment for development partners to operate effectively and continue serving the people of Amolatar.

Meanwhile, Amolatar District Vice Chairperson Ms. Margaret Olul called on the public to embrace strict ownership and sustainability of the projects.

She urged local communities near schools and water points to prevent livestock from damaging the newly established infrastructure, stressing the importance of safeguarding these critical assets.

This monumental sanitation and water infrastructure initiative marks a transformative step forward for Amolatar District, promising healthier environments and improved well-being for current and future generations.
