During the memorial prayer for the late Mr Emmy Awongo held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at his ancestral home in Awinyiany Aputi, the clan chief and acting principal entomologist of Amolatar, Mr Okello Dulson Samuel, issued an important advisory to local farmers.
Mr Okello cautioned that the forthcoming second season is expected to receive minimal rainfall, urging farmers to preserve food harvested during the first season to guard against potential shortages. He warned: “Numerous trucks have already entered Amolatar to purchase farm produce. I implore farmers to refrain from selling their food unless they are faced with significant circumstances that leave them with no other choice.”
He further underscored the importance of education within the community, noting: “Education is the only asset that Lango has retained. The educated children of the late Emmy Awongo are a testament to this precious inheritance.” His remarks highlighted the need to nurture the younger generation as a foundation for the clan’s continued prosperity.
Meanwhile, during the same occasion, the parish priest of Amolatar Catholic Church, the Rev. Fr Moses Edyamu, delivered a sermon encouraging Christians to build their spiritual lives on firm foundations. “If we wish to be remembered after our passing,” he said, “we must establish a foundation rooted in faith and good works.”
He cautioned the congregation: “Ignoring God’s will endangers one’s chance of entering the Kingdom of God.”
Fr Moses further urged the faithful to deepen their understanding of redemption, salvation, and the role of the Saviour in their lives, stating: “Salvation is not simply given; it requires effort and commitment. You must work diligently to attain it.”
The memorial prayer was attended by several dignitaries, including seminarians, the Amolatar District Vice Chairperson LCV, Mrs Magret Olul, former LCV councillor Sedu Ongom, and the NRM General Secretary for Amolatar, Mr Etum Kenedy.
The gathering reflected the high regard in which the late Emmy Awongo was held, as well as the community’s shared hope for resilience and spiritual strength in challenging times.
