Retired Colonel Ongia restores borehole, tackles water crisis in Kioga county

Retired Colonel John Francis Ongia has taken decisive action to address a severe water crisis in Acii Sub-County by restoring a broken borehole at the Alwala trading centre.

This move underscores his steadfast commitment to serving his community, even after a recent electoral defeat.

The borehole, which had remained non-functional for two weeks, was fully repaired on Tuesday using materials supplied directly by Col. Ongia himself.

His hands-on involvement highlights a personal dedication to alleviating the hardships faced by local residents.

While supervising the restoration work in Acii Parish, Col. Ongia made it clear that he would not remain passive as his community struggled with inadequate infrastructure.

“I will continue funding and coordinating borehole repairs across Kioga County,” he declared, ensuring reliable access to clean water for all residents.

Though Col. Ongia contested for the Kioga County Member of Parliament seat and lost to Colline Angwech, he affirmed that his resolve to promote development and improve the welfare of his people remains unshaken.

His efforts signify a leadership driven by service rather than political gain.

Local leaders and residents have warmly praised Col. Ongia’s intervention, recognizing its immediate impact on water availability.

Mr. Onono James expressed gratitude for the delivery of essential pipes and rods crucial to the repair.

He urged elected officials to remember their voters and collaborate with communities to avoid prolonged suffering from broken infrastructure.

Borehole Committee Chairperson Applauded Col. Ongia’s exceptional generosity and spirit, remarking on the rarity of a candidate who continues to support a community so deeply after an electoral loss.

Mr. Okello Bonny (LC1 Chairman, Alwala Village praised the retired Colonel’s enduring leadership and encouraged him to sustain his support for village development initiatives, regardless of political standing.

The water shortage had critically affected vulnerable groups in the sub-county.
