The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Amolatar, Mr. Obonyo Magwar, has congratulated 36 young people from the district who successfully passed the interview stage of the recent Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise held in Dokolo on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The successful candidates included 30 boys and six girls. Mr. Obonyo encouraged them to remain strong, hardworking and respectful toward their leaders as they prepare for military training.
He further urged the recruits to uphold integrity, remain faithful when entrusted with resources, and embrace innovation and hard work to overcome challenges during their training and future service.
The Deputy RDC also appealed to primary, secondary and tertiary students who are currently home for holidays to use their time productively by supporting their parents and guardians.
In particular, students were encouraged to participate in managing government-supported programmes, including the PRDP cattle-restocking project which benefits households across the community.
He also warned Amolatar youth against engaging in criminal activities, citing a recent incident in which suspects allegedly broke into government prison stores and stole iron sheets.
The suspects reportedly used government roads and a government ferry to transport the stolen materials.
After being prosecuted, officials cautioned that those involved could face lengthy prison sentences.
He asked young people to protect their future by avoiding crime and making constructive use of their energy and time.
Obonyo appealed to youth to engaged during the holiday season, encouraging them to join organised labour groups and offer their services for payment.
Mr.Obonyo further called on young people to form or join groups dedicated to football, traditional music and drama.
Citing As an example Mr. Obonyo commended Opio Boniface of Etam, who started growing hibiscus after acquiring seeds.
His experience demonstrates how agriculture, creativity and innovation can help young people create employment and improve their livelihoods.
Amolatar leaders urged the district’s youth to follow such examples by rejecting crime, embracing productive work and using their talents and education to contribute to household and community development.
