Retired Colonel Ongia restores borehole, resolving Kioga County water crisis after defeat

Retired Colonel John Francis Ongia has taken decisive action to address a severe water crisis in Agwingiri subcounty by restoring a broken borehole at Anywalwake village.

This move underscores his steadfast commitment to serving his community, even after a recent electoral defeat.

The borehole, which had remained non-functional for five months, was fully repaired on Tuesday using materials supplied directly by Col. Ongia himself.

His hands-on involvement highlights a personal dedication to alleviating the hardships faced by local residents who have struggled with water scarcity during this period.

Though Col. Ongia contested for the Kioga County Member of Parliament seat and lost to Colline Angwech, he affirmed that his resolve to promote development and improve the welfare of his people remains unshaken. His efforts signify a leadership driven by service rather than political gain.

Local leaders and residents have warmly praised Col. Ongia’s intervention, recognizing its immediate impact on water availability. Mrs. Anna Ayuku expressed heartfelt gratitude for the delivery of essential pipes and rods crucial to the repair.

Chairperson LC1 of Anywalwake village, David Okullo, applauded Col. Ongia’s exceptional generosity and spirit, remarking on the rarity of a candidate who continues to support a community so deeply after an electoral loss. He stated, “Colonel Ongia’s dedication goes beyond politics; it is about genuine care for his people.”

Mr. Aber Samule, LC2 Chairman of Anywalwake parish, praised the retired Colonel’s enduring leadership and encouraged him to sustain his support for village development initiatives, regardless of political standing. “His commitment is a shining example for all leaders to follow,” he added.

A group of mothers, who could not hold their happiness, expressed their relief after the borehole break down lasted for the past five months. One mother said, “We can now fetch clean water without walking long distances. Col Ongia has truly saved us.”

Col. Ongia urged elected officials to remember their voters and collaborate with communities to avoid prolonged suffering from broken infrastructure.
