Tragedy strikes Doctor Obote College as senior six student succumbs to sickle cell

Dark day as S6 student at Doctor Obote College Boroboro passes onThe community of Doctor Obote College Boroboro has been set down into deep sorrow and tears as they mourn the demise of one of their students in the early hours of today.

Oyo Marvin, a S6 candidate offering BCM succumbed to sickle cell after being rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

According to the head teacher DOC Boroboro, Rev. Dick Alengo, Marvin started feeling unwell on Tuesday 9th June and prompted the school Authorities to contact the parents for further treatment.

He also said that as the school they will take up parts of the burial arrangements for Marvin has been there son and they are heavily hit by the demise of such a promising student.

Samuel Okumu a deputy head teacher at the school confirmed to our reporter on a phone call that Marvin has been sickly and the School administration had been in contact with parents on several occasions but unfortunately this time he could not make it back alive.

Nixon Olang the class teacher of S6 Sci B where Marvin was a member in in his condolence message expressed his deep sorrow for the great loss describing Marvin as a well-known, humble and respectful student who was determined in his academic journey.

By press time several Students were showing extreme signs of grief as they mourn the demise of their beloved friend and Marvin was a student from Omoro in Alebtong District and the burial is scheduled to take place at the ancestral home in Alebtong early next week.

By the time Marvin passed on, he had been taken to the hospital by his parents after being alerted by the school authorities to get a tailored treatment for sickle cell.

Meanwhile health workers advise students with sickle cell to stay hydrated, avoid extreme coldness and heat and above all seek early treatment for any pain or fever.
