Farmers urged to wear protective gear and adopt climate resilient farming practices

Farmers have been encouraged to wear protective gear when applying chemicals on their farms to safeguard their health.

The call was made by Mr. Otuu Vincent, manager of Farm Smart Agro Input.

He noted that many farmers and other individuals continue to ignore essential safety precautions when handling agricultural chemicals.

Mr. Otuu also encouraged young people to embrace farming practices that can secure their future.

He pointed to Mr. Chagara Stanely, a 75-year-old farmer from Agwingiri, whose farming methods, he said, could serve as an example to the younger generation.

Speaking about his experience, Mr. Chagara said he has adjusted his farming practices in response to the effects of climate change.

He appealed to young people to adopt similar approaches to make their farms more resilient.

Mr. Chagara further called on the government to support farmers with innovative agricultural ideas and irrigation systems to improve production, particularly during periods of inadequate rainfall.

He explained that he cultivates five hectares of land, where he grows bananas, coffee, and cocoa.

Mr. Chagara expressed optimism that the bananas and cocoa would generate significant income.
