The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) leadership in Amolatar District has nullified all ongoing membership registration activities, declaring them unauthorised, false and misleading.

The decision was reached during a district stakeholders’ meeting chaired by PLU District Coordinator Peter Okodo. The meeting was convened to streamline the movement’s operations and restore order at the grassroots.

In one of three binding resolutions, the stakeholders ordered the immediate withdrawal of all registration books circulating in villages and trading centres under the PLU name.

The leadership said no official membership registration had been authorised in Amolatar and directed anyone in possession of the books to surrender them to the district coordinator immediately.

To address the leadership vacuum that has contributed to the confusion, the stakeholders resolved to establish a formal eight-member PLU structure at the district level, as well as an eight-member structure in every sub-county. The structures will be responsible for coordinating all PLU activities across the district.

The meeting also resolved to organise an official district-wide PLU registration launch in two weeks.

The event will mark the official start of membership registration in Amolatar.

In a separate resolution, stakeholders led by Kizito Okao, councillor for Agikdak Sub-county, condemned the district security team for allegedly failing to stop the unauthorised registration exercise.

They accused security authorities of allowing individuals to mislead the public using fake registration books and alleged that some officials had shielded those behind the exercise. According to the stakeholders, the failure to act had spread confusion and eroded trust among PLU supporters.

Kizito Okao blames the district security team for failing to stop unauthorised PLU registration.

Speaking at the meeting, Amolatar Deputy Resident District Commissioner Magwar Obonyo urged PLU mobilisers to uphold the core NRM values of patriotism, discipline and service to the people.

Coordinator Peter Okodo called on PLU leaders to support the transition of households from subsistence farming to the money economy, in line with President Yoweri Museveni’s call for socio-economic transformation.
