Fapad distributes Maize seeds boosting youth and farmers’ crop production locally

Last Friday marked a significant day for the farming communities in Muntu and Awelo sub-counties, in Amolatar district as Facilitation for Peace and Development (Fapad) extended vital support by distributing maize seeds to local farmers.

A team from Fapad, led by Geoffrey Omeny, was on the ground to provide these essential inputs just as the second planting season began.

In his speech to the assembled farmers, Mr. Omeny confirmed that each member of the farmers’ group received 5 kilograms of Longe Five maize seeds, while youth group members were given an increased allotment of 10 kilograms each. This distribution aims to boost crop production and contribute to food security in the region.

The event also witnessed appreciation from local leaders, Tom Okao Aweri, the local council chairperson for Awelo sub-county, expressed heartfelt gratitude toward Fapad, recognizing the NGO’s prominent presence and positive influence across various sectors in the district.

Farmers such as Acola Eunice and Samy Ogony, who benefited directly from the seed distribution, praised Fapad’s initiative and pledged to make the most of the seeds to improve their livelihoods.

Likewise, young recipients including Ocen Nixson and James Elope acknowledged the organization’s special focus on youth, highlighting that the support would help vulnerable young people who might otherwise struggle to purchase seeds, thereby steering them away from potential hardships.

Through this commendable effort, Fapad continues to foster agricultural development and empower both farmers and youth in Muntu and Awelo, fostering hope for a more prosperous and peaceful community.
