Missioners have been urged to become “good politicians” for Christ by learning how to present the gospel in ways that persuade people to follow Him.

The call was made by the Rev. Capt. Patrick Benson Ogwang, Director of Mission and Evangelism for the Diocese of Lango and Vicar of St Andrew’s Agweta.

He was speaking during a three-day retreat for missioners of Amolatar Urban Archdeaconry at Kampala Landing Site, held from Friday, October 23, to Sunday, October 25, 2026.

The retreat concluded with a crusade at the St Luke Urban Archdeaconry headquarters in Apalepe Cell, Apalepe Ward, Amolatar Town Council, where Rev. Capt. Ogwang delivered his remarks on Sunday.

Rev. Capt. Ogwang said the work of a missioner is similar to that of a politician. Politicians carefully package and present their messages in order to persuade people to embrace their ideologies. Likewise, he said, missioners must be skilled in presenting the message of Christ.

“As ambassadors of Christ, you must be politicians in Christ who can present what is right about Him,” he said. He added that missioners must be presentable and possess a deep understanding of Christ.

He explained that the retreat was organised to equip missioners with the knowledge and confidence needed to go into the world and testify about the great works Christ is able to do.

The retreat was held under the theme, “Go and Tell,” drawn from Luke 7:22.

Rev. Capt. Ogwang warned that many Christians are being led astray because they lack adequate knowledge of Christ.

He said some believers are being deceived by self-proclaimed pastors who claim to perform miracles, including making women pregnant or making people rich through prayer, despite relying on powers that do not come from Christ.

To counter such false teachings, he urged missioners to become firmly grounded in the knowledge of Christ.

He said the Diocese organised the retreat to enable them to proclaim the gospel with love, unity and clarity.

In conclusion, Rev. Capt. Ogwang encouraged the missioners to share what they know about Christ and make a positive impact in their communities.

“Tell people what you know about Christ,” he urged, while calling on them to serve with love and passion.
