The Amolatar Boda Boda Association officially received its SACCO registration certificate during a general meeting in Kampala on April 28, 2026.
During a general meeting held on April 28, 2026, in Kampala, the Amolatar Boda Boda Association proudly received an official certificate recognizing their Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO). This milestone achievement marks a significant step forward for the association, as it paves the way for government support aimed at boosting smallholder businesses.
In an interview, Mr. Okello Patrick Amido, the district chairperson for boda boda riders, confirmed the receipt of the certification.
He urged all boda boda members who have not yet registered to do so promptly—for both the union and the SACCO—to fully benefit from the programs being rolled out.
“Registration is crucial for every rider who wants to take advantage of the support programs and financial services now accessible through our SACCO,”* Amaido emphasized.
Looking ahead, Mr. Amido revealed exciting plans for further assistance to boda boda riders.
“The district will soon receive funds targeted at supporting smallholder businesses. Additionally, bicycles will be provided to those who have already submitted their applications, helping to improve mobility and livelihood,”* he explained.
Fred Senoga, Managing Director and CEO of the United Boda Boda Riders Cooperative Union, also encouraged riders to join the union.
He highlighted the benefits of being part of a nationwide organization dedicated to professionalizing boda boda riders.
“Joining the union allows riders to access numerous opportunities and participate in the much-anticipated programs designed to improve their welfare,”* Senoga stated.
The United Boda Boda Riders Cooperative Union, commonly referred to as the Union, is a nationwide body established to uplift and professionalize boda boda riders. Currently, it supports over 100,000 registered riders across Uganda, empowering them with training, financial services, and advocacy for better working conditions.
With this new SACCO certificate, the Amolatar Boda Boda Association is set to enhance the economic prospects of its members and contribute to the growth of smallholder enterprises within the district.
