The Amolatar district has recently received its second batch of resources for beehive farming under the Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project.
According to Mr. Dulson Okello, the acting Principle Entomologist of Amolatar and focal point person for the project, the district was supplied with 200 beehives and additional equipment for the Kica Arwot farmers group in Agwingiri sub-county.
This delivery was made possible through a co-funding arrangement between the farmers and the government.
Mr. Okello explained that the farmers contributed 20% of the total project cost, amounting to 7.2 million Ugandan shillings, while the government funded the remaining 80%, totaling 29 million shillings.

These funds were used to purchase the beehives and necessary honey-harvesting tools.
He commended the farmers for their active involvement and dedication towards advancing actual honey production.
Echoing this sentiment, Francis Ojok aka Joker, the district production officer, encouraged the farmers by highlighting that the co-funding model fosters a sense of ownership over the project.
Ms. Rhoda Oroma, the Chief Administrative Officer of Amolatar, urged the group to take diligent care of their beehives, emphasizing that successful management could lead to substantial income generation and contribute significantly to poverty eradication—a key goal emphasized by the president.
Honorable Mike Awio, the secretary for works and production, motivated the farmers to use their earnings responsibly, particularly to cover their children’s school fees, thereby supporting education within the community.
Mrs. Magret Olul, Vice Chairperson LCV of Amolatar, praised the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government for initiating such impactful programs aimed at alleviating poverty and helping farmers adapt to the challenges posed by climate change.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner Sarah Tyan expressed her gratitude to the farmers for their commitment and progress.
She encouraged them to manage their beehives effectively to maximize income generation opportunities.
Beneficiaries Christian Ojok and Julius Okello also expressed their heartfelt thanks to the district authorities for facilitating access to these vital resources, which promise to improve their livelihoods.
Overall, the distribution of these beehives represents a significant step forward in promoting sustainable agriculture and empowering local farmers in Amolatar district to respond proactively to climate change challenges while improving their economic well-being.
