Fallen tree in Nalibwoyo rises after one year, sparking debate

Residents of Ocamolum in Nalibwoyo Sub-county, Amolatar District, are expressing surprise after a tree that had reportedly fallen and remained on the ground for about a year was found standing upright again.

Mr Esaku Charles, the owner of the garden where the tree had fallen, said he woke up at around 2am and noticed something white outside his home.

Upon checking, he said he was shocked to find that the tree had returned to an upright position. He then called neighbours to witness what had happened.

The LC III Chairperson of Nalibwoyo Sub-county, Alfred Ocen Yubu, confirmed the incident and suggested that it could be part of a divine plan. He urged residents to remain calm and avoid fear or speculation.

However, the incident has sparked debate within the community. Emwodo Bosco, head of the Kumam clan in Nalibwoyo, condemned allegations by some residents linking the Kumam community to witchcraft over the tree’s reported resurgence.

Bosco said some individuals, particularly from the Langi community, had associated the incident with the recent LC I elections, after a Kumam candidate who contested the election lost.

He said some people believe the occurrence could be linked to alleged sorcery arising from election-related disagreements.

As news of the incident spread, residents gathered at the site to see the tree for themselves, with many expressing a mixture of curiosity, amazement and concern about what the event could mean for Ocamolum.
