Amolatar Deputy RDC Magwar drives youth development through sport as Archbishop visits

Amolatar, Uganda — A spirit of community participation and development is gaining momentum in Amolatar under the leadership of Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Obonyo Magwar.

As the district prepares for a busy period ahead, Magwar has taken steps to celebrate local leadership and promote youth development through sport.

Following the recent Local Council elections, Deputy RDC Magwar congratulated the newly elected LC1 and LC2 leaders, acknowledging the trust they had earned from their communities.

He emphasised the importance of active civic participation and reminded residents about the upcoming elections for women’s council leadership at sub-county and district levels, with nominations and voting scheduled throughout August 2026.

His call for voter engagement reflects his commitment to promoting fair representation and inclusive governance in Amolatar.

Alongside these political developments, Magwar is spearheading an initiative to nurture young talent and promote community unity through sport.

He announced plans to host an Under-14 football tournament for boys and girls in September, coinciding with the historic visit of the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda to the central region on 19 September.

The tournament aims to honour the Archbishop’s visit while promoting regional development and youth empowerment.

“The winners of this tournament will proudly receive a cup presented by the Archbishop himself,” Magwar said.

Beyond the competition, the event forms part of a broader vision for community development, including improved infrastructure such as the proposed tarmacking of the Amolatar-Dokolo Road.

“Without good roads, the centre cannot truly develop,” he stressed, highlighting the importance of improved transport infrastructure in unlocking the area’s development potential.

Supporting the initiative, youth volunteer Ivan Gwom called on community stakeholders and well-wishers to support the tournament, highlighting its potential to inspire young athletes and strengthen community unity.

With the official launch scheduled for next week, preparations are underway to make the event a memorable occasion for Amolatar’s youth and residents.
