Bishop Olwa heads to Amolatar to mobilise believers for Archbishop’s visit

The Bishop of Lango Diocese, Professor Alfred Olwa, will visit Amolatar on Sunday, 30 August 2026, to prepare Christians and the wider community for the forthcoming visit of the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu.

Archbishop Kazimba is expected in Amolatar on 21 September 2026 for a fellowship and sermon at the Centre of Uganda tourism site. The visit is intended to promote faith, tourism, community development.

Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Obonyo Magwar, who is leading mobilisation efforts ahead of the Archbishop’s visit, said the community would welcome him through cultural entertainment, fellowship and exhibitions of local foods.

The event is expected to attract government officials, religious leaders, tourism stakeholders, Members of Parliament, beauty pageant contestants and other prominent personalities. Among the invited guests is Dorcas Inzukuru, Uganda’s Sports Ambassador and Private Presidential Secretary for Sports.

The first and second runners-up of Miss Tourism Northern Uganda are also expected to attend.

The Under-14 tournament will begin on 1 September 2026, with 14 teams expected to compete in a gala-style competition before the finals.

Tournament coordinator Okello Mike has encouraged parents, teachers and football supporters to support young people’s participation.

He said football should be viewed not only as entertainment but also as a potential source of employment and income for young people.

The tournament will also provide pupils on holiday with an opportunity to make friends, improve their sporting abilities and compete for trophies.

During the Archbishop’s visit, district officials are expected to engage the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, the Uganda Tourism Board and custodians of the Centre of Uganda site on plans to develop the area into a strategic tourism destination.

Deputy RDC Magwar said the visit would strengthen cooperation between religious institutions, the Government and local communities.

He added that Amolatar’s cultural music, dance and local foods, as well as its previous experience hosting French, Portuguese and Spanish tourists, demonstrate the district’s tourism potential.
