A suspected Ebola case at Lira Regional Referral Hospital has tested negative, medical officials confirmed on Monday.

Health officials in Lira City said the suspected case was ruled out after laboratory results confirmed that the patient did not have Ebola.

On Saturday, a 42-year-old male boda boda rider was admitted to the isolation unit after presenting with severe symptoms, including vomiting blood, high fever, and general body weakness.

However, laboratory test results released on Sunday officially cleared the patient of the Ebola virus.

Despite this, the patient later died. Medical staff established liver failure as the primary cause of illness and death.

The Hospital Director, Dr Andrew Odur, expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

He urged the public and health workers to remain highly vigilant and to promptly report any unusual medical symptoms to emergency response teams.
