Grief and shock have engulfed residents of Lira City following the death of renowned gospel artist and music producer Lolo Sam, best known for his hit song “Pe Igom Line”.
The 38-year-old musician, whose real name was not immediately disclosed, was reportedly found dead inside his music studio in Wigweng Cell on Friday afternoon.
According to a statement issued by North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the incident was reported to Ojwina Police Station at approximately 5:00 p.m. on October 16.
Preliminary findings indicate that Lolo Sam, a resident of Ojwina Quarter Cell, arrived at his studio at around 11:00 a.m. but did not leave for several hours.
Concerned friends reportedly broke into the studio, where they discovered his body hanging inside one of the rooms.
Police officers, including homicide detectives and Scene of Crime Officers, responded to the scene and began investigations.
“Investigators report that the deceased allegedly took his own life,” SP Okema said.
His body was transported to the mortuary at Lira Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.
Lolo Sam was the son of retired religious leader Reverend Isaac Okot of Abali Village in Akongomit, Awelo, Amolatar District.
His death has left family members, fellow musicians, church communities, and fans mourning the loss of a respected gospel artist and producer.
Police have extended their condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and supporters while urging anyone experiencing emotional distress, depression, or substance-abuse challenges to seek help promptly.
Members of the public are encouraged to speak with trusted relatives, health professionals, religious leaders, or psychosocial support providers rather than suffering in silence.
