His Grace, Archbishop Raphael P’Mony Wokorach of Gulu, has urged leaders in Agago district—particularly political leaders—to actively embrace and promote tree-planting initiatives as a vital step towards environmental conservation.

Speaking during his homily at Aloi in Patongo town council, the Archbishop stressed that leaders have a critical role to play in safeguarding the environment.

He underscored the importance of championing sound environmental practices, such as afforestation and reforestation, as essential measures to combat increasing environmental degradation in the region.

His call was made during the joyful occasion of the official handover of St Matthew’s Church, which was recently constructed and gifted to the people by the Chief Justice of Uganda, Hon. Alfonse Owiny Dollo Chigamoi.

In his message to the faithful, Archbishop Wokorach also reminded Christians and all believers of their spiritual duty to care for the environment.

He urged them not only to focus on personal and communal spiritual growth but also to take deliberate action to protect the environment, which he described as a gift from God.

The Archbishop’s message resonated deeply with the congregation and local leaders present, further reinforcing the call for collective action in promoting environmental stewardship in Agago and beyond.
