Twenty government-aided schools’ headteachers, including the Gulu City Inspector of Schools, have received digital gadgets such as iPads, tablets, and digital notebooks in recognition of their efforts and support for pupils at the various schools they lead.
While handing over the iPads and tablets to the teachers on Thursday, 17 April 2025, at Gulu Public Primary School, Hon. Ojara Martine Mapenduzi, Member of Parliament for Bardege-Layibi Division, said the iPads are a step towards embracing technological advancement. He added that many tasks can be done online, eliminating the need to move from one point to another simply to convey information.
The schools include St. Mary’s P/S, Gulu Prison P/S, Gulu Public P/S, Kirombe P/S, Gulu Baptist P/S, Layibi P.7 P/S, St. Joseph P/S, Demonstration P/S, Obiya West P/S, Kweyo P/S, Kasubi Central P/S, Christ Church P/S, Kasubi Army P/S, Mama Cave P/S, Layibi Techo P/S, Paminano P/S, Laliya P/S, among others, located in Bardege-Layibi Division.
The head teachers expressed their gratitude and promised to make good use of the iPads.
Mr. Opira Charles, the head teacher of Layibi P.7 Primary School, said that these iPads will help them store vital information for the school.
Ms. Akello Pauline Florence, the head teacher of Demonstration Primary School, said she would use the gadgets to convey information from her office to the head offices and stakeholders. She added that this has made her work much easier.
The Gulu City Mayor, Okwonga Alfred, said this is the best way to create a smart city where everything is digital and efficient.
Martine Mapenduzi said they started with government-aided schools, but in two to three months’ time, he will secure more devices for privately-owned schools within his constituency.
