Reverend Father Matthew reportedly collapsed earlier on Friday at Christ the King Catholic Parish in Kitgum and was later confirmed dead from Kitgum General Hospital where he was rushed for treatment.
‘’It is with deep sadness that the Archdiocese of Gulu announces the passing of Rev Fr Mathew Okun Lagoro. Fr Lagoro tragically collapsed earlier today at Christ the King Kitgum and was confirmed dead at Kitgum General Hospital. His body is currently being transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor.’’ The Gulu Archdiocese said on Friday evening.
It added; ‘’Fr Lagoro served the Church faithfully and notably as the Chairman of the Uganda National Diocesan Priests’ Association (UNDIPA). His loss is profoundly felt by all who knew him.’’
The church says burial arrangements will be communicated in due course, adding that they pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Father Lagoro played key roles in the cassava commercialization and industrialization project which promoted the modern ethanol cooking stoves to reduce reliance on traditional charcoal.
