TotalEnergies EP Uganda is stepping up efforts to conserve biodiversity in the Tilenga project area—initiatives that also support Uganda’s climate change mitigation goals.
Through forest corridor restoration, removal of invasive species, and wildlife protection, the company is preserving natural ecosystems that serve as critical carbon sinks.
David Ochanda, Head of Biodiversity at TotalEnergies EP Uganda, explains that the company’s work goes beyond protecting species. He said that healthy ecosystems help regulate the climate, store carbon, and reduce vulnerability to extreme weather, representing a long-term investment in resilience.
To date, the company has restored 118 hectares of forest and cleared over 19,000 cubic metres of invasive plants, enhancing natural carbon absorption. It is also supporting communities to replant 350 hectares of native woodland, further strengthening ecological and climate resilience.
Through this approach, TotalEnergies is aligning oil development with environmental responsibility, demonstrating how biodiversity initiatives can make a meaningful contribution to climate solutions.
