The Gulu Cancer Institute has officially received a new head, Dr. Geriga Fhadil, who was appointed by the Uganda Cancer Institute in Kampala. The handover ceremony took place on Monday, September 1st, 2025, at the institute’s premises in Gulu.
Dr. Geriga takes over from Dr. Amos Obote, who began his leadership in July 2022 when the institute had only nine staff members. Over the past two years, Dr. Amos has overseen significant growth and improved service delivery at the facility.
During the ceremony, Dr. Amos expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Uganda Cancer Institute, which he said played a key role in the institute’s success. He also pledged to continue supporting the Gulu branch, even after stepping down.
Dr. Geriga thanked the Uganda Cancer Institute for entrusting him with the leadership role and called for cooperation from the staff to enhance services. He also committed to working closely with his predecessor, Dr. Amos, who remains part of the institute’s team.
Dr. Walusansa Victoria, the Assistant Executive Director from the Uganda Cancer Institute headquarters in Kampala, commended Dr. Amos for his dedication. She encouraged Dr. Geriga to build on the foundation laid and pledged continued support to help the Gulu centre achieve its goals.
