Pupils from different schools and residents in Gulu City are calling for urgent measures to address rising environmental challenges threatening the city’s ecosystem.

Speaking during a community dialogue on the environment and gender-based violence held Tuesday afternoon at Kaunda Grounds, participants cited poor waste management, rapid population growth, deforestation from charcoal burning, and widespread plastic waste as major threats.

The event, organized by UNDP in partnership with Gulu City Council and other development partners, brought together pupils, parents, and residents to seek practical solutions.

Participants proposed improved waste disposal systems, community sensitization on deforestation, and the adoption of sustainable farming practices to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers.

They also urged residents to plant trees and replace every one cut down to combat deforestation.
