The Gulu City Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mike Jjuku, has cautioned parliamentary aspirants against making donations to individuals, churches, or communities during the campaign period.

He says such acts amount to electoral malpractice and are punishable by law.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the nomination of parliamentary candidates, Jjuku warned that the commission will not tolerate any attempts by aspirants to influence voters through gifts or financial contributions.

He added that any donations made by aspirants in churches or elsewhere will be treated as a form of rigging an offense that will attract penalties.

JJuku also urged candidates to maintain discipline and decorum throughout the campaigns, advising them to avoid using vulgar or abusive language during rallies and public engagements.

As Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections, the Electoral Commission says it remains committed to ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful process in Gulu City and across the country.

Meanwhile, the race for the Gulu City Woman Member of Parliament seat has attracted three candidates: incumbent Aol Betty Ocan of the People’s Front for Freedom, Alima Joyce of the NRM, and independent candidate Judith Obina Pachoto.
