The Gulu District Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Alanyo Florence Anna, has called for a more inclusive approach to addressing gender-based violence, saying interventions should focus on both men and women.

Speaking during a community dialogue organised by the UNDP, Gulu City Council, and development partners at Kaunda Grounds last week, Alanyo noted that men, too, can be victims of GBV.

She cited a recent case where a man reportedly took his own life due to GBV-related challenges—highlighting the urgent need for a balanced response.

Alanyo urged government and development partners to design programs that engage all genders in discussions and activities aimed at preventing and responding to GBV. She said raising awareness among both men and women will help promote understanding and lasting solutions.

She added that GBV remains a serious challenge in the community and called on all stakeholders to work together to end the vice and promote peaceful coexistence.

Meanwhile, Jesica Anena, speaking on behalf of the Gulu District Community Development Officer, commended UNDP for organising the dialogue, noting that GBV levels remain high in northern Uganda and across the country.
