Police in Gulu City have arrested twenty-five suspects in a major night operation targeting criminal networks operating within the city centre.
According to the Gulu Central Business Division, the operation was conducted around 1:43 a.m. on Wednesday, focusing on crime hotspots along Cemetery Road and the Makome Bus Terminal.
Police say the suspects were apprehended over allegations of burglary, theft, and drug abuse. They are currently detained at Gulu Central Police Station as investigations continue. Detectives are preparing case files for submission to the Resident State Attorney for legal action.
Aswa West Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Ongom David Mudong, said the operation is part of efforts to dismantle criminal gangs that have been terrorising residents, especially at night.
He added that fifteen of the suspects will appear in court on Monday once their files are screened and sanctioned. Mudong warned that similar operations will continue until Gulu City is safe, urging criminals to abandon their activities before they are caught.
