The Head of the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) Gulu branch, Dr. Fadhil Giriga, has expressed concern over the low number of women seeking breast cancer screening services at the facility despite having a functional mammography machine.

Speaking during a press conference last week, Dr. Giriga said the low turnout has contributed to late-stage cancer diagnoses, making treatment more difficult and outcomes less successful. He emphasised that the institute is fully equipped to provide screenings and treatment, but efforts are being hindered by limited public response.
Dr. Henry Dabanza, also from UCI Gulu, echoed the call, urging women to go for early screening since early detection greatly improves survival chances. He reassured the public that the mammography machine is available and operational for all who need it.
Health experts continue to stress that regular breast cancer screening remains one of the most effective ways to reduce deaths through early detection and timely intervention.
