The Uganda Veterinary Association has brought together stakeholders in Gulu City for a national symposium aimed at improving animal health, welfare, and productivity.
Speaking at a press briefing at Acholi Inn, Dr Okello David Nelson called for stronger collaboration between veterinarians and farmers, questioning why livestock output continues to fall short of national expectations.
The symposium is part of the Association’s annual three-day Farmers’ Engagement Outreach, aimed at boosting livestock productivity and improving community livelihoods.

Association President Dr Andrew Ashaba urged farmers to adhere to health and environmental regulations, treat animal diseases promptly, and use chemicals responsibly to safeguard both livestock and the environment. He added that the symposium had equipped practitioners with new skills to enhance their work.
Participants, including farmer Wilfred Onena, praised the discussions for broadening their knowledge. Organisers announced that next year’s engagement will be held in Arua.
