Kisumu County Governor, Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, is set for a historic mid-December visit to Uganda.

He will travel at the invitation of Rocco Paco co-chairs, Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo and Ambassador Olara Otunnu.

The Governor and the First Lady, Mama Dorothy Nyong’o, are scheduled to arrive on 12 December, with a special dinner in their honour hosted that evening by the Chief Justice at his residence in Nakasero.

The visit is expected to strengthen ties between the people of Kenya and Uganda, drawing inspiration from the landmark 1958 visit by Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and his son, Raila Odinga.

On 13 December, Governor Nyong’o will serve as Guest of Honour at the Acoli Ribbe Lwo Festival at the UMA Show Grounds in Nakawa. From 14 to 18 December, he will tour the Acoli sub-region, including Gulu, Madi Opei, and Pawidi, paying respects at several cultural and historical sites.

According to Olara Otunnu and Ojok Acii, this year’s visit replaces the annual Guure Me Pongdwongo event. The Governor will also pay tribute at the grave of poet Okot P’Bitek before meeting clan leaders on 17 December at Taks Centre in Gulu City.
