Authorities in Gulu District have intensified their call for financial and logistical support as preparations for the International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations face a significant funding shortfall.
The district has allocated UGX 21,840,000 for the event, which is scheduled to take place on March 10, 2026, at Paibona Sub-county. The celebrations were initially planned for Pukony Sub-county but were later rescheduled to Paibona.
The Senior Probation Officer for Gulu District, Anena Jasica, said although preparations are underway, the available resources are still insufficient to facilitate all the planned activities.
She appealed to development partners, stakeholders, and well-wishers to come forward and help bridge the funding gap to ensure the success of the district celebration.
Meanwhile, Betty Atim, the Chairperson of the Gulu District Women’s Council and head of the organizing committee, revealed that the committee has so far secured less than half of the required budget for the event.
She noted that the team is continuing to mobilize resources from partners and the community to make the celebration successful.
Local leaders have also emphasized that the significance of the day goes far beyond the ceremonial gathering.
Kenneth “Doggy” Okello, the District Councillor representing Workers, described the day as a vital platform for inspiring women to pursue their dreams and achieve economic independence.
On her part, Joyce Awanya, the Councillor for Paicho, encouraged both men and women to observe the day as a symbol of mutual respect, unity, and love within the community.
Moses Ogwang, the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) for Gulu District, urged the public to embrace the day positively, highlighting the indispensable role women and mothers play in strengthening families and driving national development.
The official theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Give to Gain,” a campaign aimed at promoting generosity, collaboration, and shared responsibility in advancing gender equality.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Gulu is expected to preside over the function as the Chief Guest.
