Acholi leaders back Rwot David Onen Acana II’s girl child education campaign

Leaders across the Acholi sub-region have pledged total support for a community-driven education initiative spearheaded by Rwot David Onen Acana II.

The commitment was solidified during the Ker Kwaro Acholi leader’s 60th birthday celebrations at Kaunda Grounds, Gulu city on Tuesday focusing on infrastructure for girls’ schools. The drive aims to fund dormitories at Padibe Girls SS, a classroom block at Kitgum High, and facilities at Paibona Primary.

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao, who is also the Member of Parliament-elect for Laroo-Pece Division, commended Rwot Acana for dedicating his birthday to advancing girls’ education.He assured the gathering that Acholi leaders are committed to ensuring the success of the initiative

The Kilak North MP Anthony Akol in his messages delivered by Bardege Layibi Mp Martin Ojara Mapenduzi contributed 500,000 and urged community ownerships to the initiative brought by the paramount chief.

Pader district womwn MP Lowila CD Oketayot added a 500,000-shilling donation, highlighting education as the key to socio-economic transformation.

Speaking on behalf of the religious leader the northern regional khadi Sheikh Musa Khalil called for collective responsibility to uplift schools.

However, Ambassador Dr. Olara Otunnu cautioned that while the girl child is a priority, boys’ education must not be neglected.

The campaign, which launched with 91 million shillings raised at a Monday dinner in Acholi Inn hotel Gulu city continues to gain momentum as a pathway to sustainable development.
