Amolatar District Local Government Trains on Micro Scale Irrigation

Amolatar district leaders have been tasked to mobilize more women to embrace the micro scale irrigation.

This was echoed yesterday 23.Nov.2022 by the district community development officer during an inception meeting on micro scale irrigation at the Amolatar district headquarters.

Otile Patrick said that women are key in agriculture and production accounting to 70% of productivity though only 20% of them own land.

Meanwhile the LC5 chairperson applauded the government initiative and asked the different stake holders to work together

in order to achieve the objective.

Geoffrey Ocen said that the micro scale irrigation will help fill the gaps created by the prolonged drought hence enabling the district to fight food insecurity and be self-reliant.

Ocen also told the different stake holders who attended this training to create awareness to the community.

The chief administrative officer urged leaders to appreciate and participate in government programs.

Awuye Bruno said that such government programs are solutions to food insecurity.

He cited the former Libyan President Maummar Gaddaffi whom he said turned his country in to green from a desert through the same initiative of irrigation.

The district production and marketing officer said that this program will pilot in three sub counties but will be up scaled to other sub counties in the next quarter.

Francis Ojok said that the production department has already started profiling farmers to be supported.

In his closing remarks the RDC represented by the DISO Denis Elyabu commended government and president Museveni for such social and economic transformation.

He however cautioned the stake holders to

Adhere to the guidelines of the project funder World Bank.

This training Micro scale irrigation program funded by World Band supported by MAAIF was attended by different stake holders in Amolatar including the LC111 & IV councilors and district departmental heads among others.
