Amolatar: UBOS trains enumerators and supervisors ahead of the census

As Uganda prepares for the upcoming national housing and population census, different districts in the Lango sub-region are ready.

Amolatar district, one of the districts in the region has already begun training enumerators and supervisors.

The training includes providing enumerators with essential skills and knowledge, as well as instruction on how to use the new gadgets being delivered to districts by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS).

This, according to Dr. Odur Benard, census commissioner for Amolatar, is intended to ensure that field enumerators carry out their duties effectively during the upcoming exercise.

Dr. Odur urged Amolatar’s leadership to take the initiative and engage various churches in the district to help mobilize the locals.

“For nine days, we will be training enumerators and supervisors in all 16 sub-counties in the district, providing them with knowledge and skills on how to carry out the exercise, which will begin on May 9, 2024, with the census night,” Odur told our reporter.

Additionally, he stated that the sub-county is still receiving distribution of the materials for the exercise, which have all been received by the district.

The enumerators will be provided with various gadgets, including backpacks, tablets, and exercise modules to facilitate their work.

With supervisors and enumerators prepared for work, he did add that the training is proceeding smoothly thus far.

They hope to meet the target by training enumerators on how to count people beginning on census night, he added.

According to him, census night will include fishermen who will be in the lake and people travelling across.

The training, which began on April 30, will continue until May 8, 2024.
