Police arrests woman who stole a new born baby in Amolatar

The territorial police in Amolatar District have intercepted a 22 year old lady suspected to have stolen a newly born baby from Amolatar Health Center IV.

This follows a quick report registered by the in-charge Amolatar health centre IV Dr Moses Ekwang, in Inomo ward, Amolatar Town Council Amolatar District.

The mother of the baby has been identified as Acio Winnie and father Opio Emmy all residents of Angayiki Village, Aburkidi Parish,Arwotcek Sub-County, Amolatar District.

According to North kyoga Police spokesperson SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, It’s alleged that on the May 24 at around 02:45 hours at Maternity Ward in Amolatar Health Centre IV unidentified woman stole a baby girl from the ward immediately after delivery.

Okema said that she was allegedly speaking different languages of kumum, Luo, Luganda, and English, pretending to be waiting for her patient at the health facility, however after the baby had been stolen people recalled about her and immediately a case was reported at Amolatar police station under SD Ref: 02/24/05/2024.

Communication was dispersed to various stakeholders within Amolatar and above all the media of hot FM and other media platforms.

All entry and Exit routes including the management of ferry at Namasale Landing site were informed and coordination well managed, shortly this morning at around 6:30 am she was arrested and the baby recovered.

“We want to thank very sincerely all various stakeholders for taking interest in this matter and made it easy for the suspect to be arrested and baby recovered”, Okema added. Okema confirmed to the media that she has been whisked away to Amolatar police station for statement recording and possible charge of child stealing against her.
