Amolatar, Uganda – In a significant gathering held today at Star One Motel, the youth of Amolatar expressed their unanimous support for Nakku Fiona as the national youth female member of Parliament for the term 2026-2030.
The endorsement marks a pivotal moment in the political engagement of the youth within the region.
Calvin Opolot, chairperson of the youth, opened the meeting by highlighting the strong ties between the Langi and Teso communities, which have fostered collaboration and mutual support. He reflected on the substantial backing received from Teso during the 2021 elections, which played a crucial role in achieving vital positions within youth leadership.
“Nakku Fiona embodies the aspirations of our youth,” Opolot stated, affirming his confidence in her ability to effectively advocate for their interests in Parliament. “Her vision aligns with our needs and the future we envision for ourselves.”
Bonniface Ogonya, the administrative secretary of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Amolatar district, also commended Nakku Fiona for her dedicated service to the party. He encouraged the youth to aspire for leadership roles and cautioned against engaging in identity politics. “We are one nation, united in purpose and vision,” he asserted.
Ogonya further urged the youth leadership to establish a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) to leverage government programs aimed at economic empowerment. In a show of commitment, Nakku Fiona pledged her support by providing the youth of Amolatar with 400,000 shillings to help initiate their SACCO.
During her address, Fiona emphasized the importance of productive agriculture as a vehicle for national development, urging the youth of Northern Uganda to focus their efforts in this direction.
She expressed her intent to strengthen collaboration between the National Youth Council and the NRM youth wing and called for increased representation of women in leadership roles.
“Nakku Fiona is not just a candidate; she is a champion for our voices and our future,” she said, reaffirming her dedication to the youth’s interests. Fiona also appealed for their support for President Museveni in the upcoming 2026 elections, emphasizing that a united front is essential for advancing their collective aspirations.
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among the youth, igniting enthusiasm for the upcoming elections and reinforcing their commitment to supporting Nakku Fiona in her quest to represent them in Parliament.
