In a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation, the territorial police in Alebtong district successfully apprehended a notorious criminal, Ogwal Jasper, aged 33. Jasper, a resident of Lobo-Doko Ryek village, Amononeno parish, Abako subcounty, had previously escaped from Gulu Main Prison on December 3, 2024, where he was serving time for three counts of murder and aggravated robbery.

The operation, which took place on March 12, marks a significant achievement for local law enforcement. Ogwal Jasper’s continued involvement in criminal activities had been a serious concern for the residents of Alebtong district. According to North Kyoga Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the police received multiple complaints from locals, prompting intensified efforts to track and apprehend him. “Despite several planned attempts to capture him before today, our efforts had been unsuccessful until this operation on March 12,” Okema noted.

During the arrest, Ogwal Jasper posed an immediate threat by brandishing a panga and attempting to attack one of the officers. In response, the officer on duty discharged a warning shot, which resulted in a non-fatal injury to Jasper’s left leg. This decisive action ensured the safety of both the officers and the public, leading to a successful arrest.

Following his apprehension, Ogwal Jasper was transported back to Gulu Main Prison for further processing of his cases, including new charges related to his escape from lawful custody. Authorities are also investigating any additional offenses he may have committed while on the run.

This operation underscores the commitment and resilience of the territorial police in ensuring community safety. The successful capture of Ogwal Jasper not only brings relief to the residents of Alebtong district but also serves as a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing strategies.

The community can rest assured that the territorial police will continue their vigilant efforts to maintain law and order and bring criminals to justice.
