On 30th March 2025, a wave of excitement swept through the peaceful community of Otango-Cinge Parish in Abeja sub county, Amolatar district, as Mr. Peter Okodo, owner of the Jerusalem School of Nursing and Midwifery, made a significant contribution to the future of local education and sports. In a generous act, he donated 40 iron sheets and 800,000 Ugandan shillings towards the construction of a new classroom block for Otango-Cinge Primary School.
Additionally, he provided uniforms and a football to Kings Lion Football Club, further boosting the spirits of the community’s youth.
During the event, Mr. Okodo addressed attendees with heartfelt words. “I urge you all to see me as an anthill poised to produce white ants,” he remarked, emphasising the importance of growth and future aspirations for the community. His vision aligns with his candidacy for the Kioga North parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2026 elections, a role he hopes will enable him to further support education and development efforts in the region.
Okodo expressed his deep appreciation for the unwavering commitment shown by the parents of Otango-Cinge Primary School, who have supported the institution for fifteen years without any government assistance. “It is commendable that you have managed this school through sheer determination,” he said, recognising that the government has recently assumed its management, marking a positive shift for the school’s future.
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that every child born in the area has access to education. “I cannot emphasise enough the need for improved educational facilities,” Okodo added, referring to schools such as Arwotcek Primary School, which have also benefited from his support.
The head teacher of Otango-Cinge Primary School, Mr. Odongo Patrick, expressed the school’s gratitude. “Mr. Okodo’s generosity in addressing our urgent needs is deeply appreciated,” he said, highlighting the transformative impact of the donations on both students and teachers.
Further praising Okodo’s contributions, Mr. Ocen Joseph, a member of the school management committee, highlighted that this was the first time any individual had intervened to help students escape the hardships of learning under trees. “This donation marks a turning point for our school,” he said proudly.
Aman Gilbert, captain of the Kings Lion Football Team and a teacher at the primary school, celebrated the provision of sports uniforms and a football. “These gifts will not only enhance the learning environment but will also promote teamwork and discipline among our students,” he remarked enthusiastically.
The community’s joy was palpable as locals gathered to celebrate not only the donations but also the hope they bring for a brighter future. “Thank you, Mr. Okodo, for shielding our children from the rain and fostering development within Otango-Cinge,” said one resident, capturing the sentiment of many in attendance.
In total, Okodo’s contributions, including 40 iron sheets, financial support for classroom construction, and sports equipment, have laid a strong foundation for growth and positivity in the Otango-Cinge community. His commitment serves as a reminder of the significant impact one individual can have on the lives of many, inspiring hope and progress for generations to come.
Otango-Cinge Primary School, located in Otango-Cinge Parish, Abeja Sun County, Amolatar District, was established in 2010 as a community school and is now under government management. However, it still lacks a proper classroom block, with pupils continuing to study under the tree.
