4th April 2025 marked a significant milestone for Amolatar Secondary School as its alumni successfully collected over 90 bags of cement on the school grounds, a commendable effort aimed at restoring the institution to its former prestige.

The Chairperson of the alumni association, Mr. Were Mathias, expressed his unwavering commitment to transforming Amolatar Secondary School into a model institution that reflects the excellence it once embodied.

Amolatar Secondary School, which has produced numerous successful individuals—many of whom have gone on to achieve postgraduate degrees—holds a rich history dating back to the 1980s and 1990s, when it was renowned for academic excellence.

Determined to revive this legacy, the alumni are working tirelessly to provide the necessary resources to bring their vision to fruition.

During the collection event, Mr. Were took the opportunity to commend two prominent figures, George Otim Tolly and Ben Alex Adoi, for their invaluable contributions to establishing the school as a centre of excellence. Their efforts have not only impacted current students but have also laid a strong foundation for future generations.

Francis Ojok Abujoka, the District Production Officer for Amolatar, encouraged students to prioritise their education as a means of securing their futures.

He emphasised the importance of avoiding negative influences that could jeopardise their paths. Abujoka also praised the school for maintaining the legacy of its debating club, which has been pivotal in nurturing critical thinking and public speaking skills among students.

Morish Ogwal Omara, the district councilor for Awelo, further inspired young minds by urging them to embrace leadership roles as a pathway to success.

He reminded the students to consider the sacrifices their parents have made, advocating for a focused approach toward education over involvement in potentially detrimental peer groups.

A guest speaker at the event, Madam Filly Auma, a former candidate for the woman MP position in Dokolo district, passionately advocated for girls’ education.

She advised young girls to be wary of deceptive relationships and stressed that an educated woman is highly valued in marriage.

Her message was clear: concentrating on studies is paramount for young girls to secure a better future.

The headteacher of Amolatar Secondary School, Odur, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the alumni for their generous contributions towards the construction of a girls’ dormitory.

He assured them of transparent accountability for the funds raised, reinforcing the commitment to use these resources wisely for the benefit of the students.

With a collective effort from alumni, local leaders, and educators, there is hope for Amolatar Secondary School to reclaim its status as a beacon of educational excellence in the region, inspiring both current and future students to rise to their fullest potential.
