The territorial police in Lira city are currently engaged in a thorough investigation concerning an alleged case of homosexuality involving a 10-year-old male minor.
The incident reportedly took place on April 21, 2025, at approximately 2:00 PM, and has raised significant concern within the local community.
The victim, a student in Primary 3 at Ayago Primary School and a resident of Atego A cell in Atego ward, was accompanied by a friend, Musa, when they visited the home of the accused, identified as Hashim Yasin, a 24-year-old teacher at Answar Mosque, located near Kitgum Road.
The two young boys were later joined by additional friends, including Okwir Pius, Odongo Kizito, and Opio Carlos.
According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the spokesperson for North Kyoga police, the suspect allegedly directed the children into his bedroom where he played cartoons on his phone while lying on a mattress. Disturbingly, it is claimed that he then applied jelly to the victim’s anus and proceeded to sodomise him. After the act, Yasin reportedly gave the victim 1,000 shillings to share with his friends.
When the victim returned home, he experienced significant pain in his anus and informed his mother of the incident.
His mother quickly communicated the situation to the Local Council (L.C. 1) of Atego A cell, who then reached out to the victim’s father, a businessman based in Patongo, Agago district.
The following day, April 22, 2025, the father arrived in Lira city, leading to the registration of the case at the Lira City Central Police Station (CPS) and the subsequent arrest and detention of the suspect.
Following the registration of the complaint, a case file was opened, and statements were collected from the complainant, the victim, and several witnesses. Additionally, the victim was issued a P3a form for medical examination, while the accused was provided with a Pf 24a form for the same purpose. The scene of the alleged crime was examined by the Deputy Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), and other detectives.
SP Okema expressed deep concern over the nature of the allegations, remarking that this is not the first instance of such a case being registered in the area, describing the situation as “regrettable.” He emphasized the police’s commitment to managing the case diligently and ensuring that justice is served before the court of law.
As the investigation unfolds, the community watches closely, hoping for a swift resolution to this serious matter, which underscores the urgent need for awareness and preventive measures regarding the welfare of minors.
