As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) prepares for pivotal leadership elections, the interest shown by candidates in Amolatar and Dokolo has sparked lively discussions within both the party and local communities.
More than six individuals have expressed their intention to run for the position of NRM Chairperson in Amolatar, indicating a competitive race ahead.
According to a list obtained by our reporter, notable names in the mix include Joseph Angole, a practising lawyer, and Kamilo Olwit, an established teacher. Leo Ocen, a senior NRM member, also adds to the esteemed lineup.
This group also features Emmy Awongo, the former mayor of Amolatar Town Council, and Goody Otoo, the current mayor of Namasale Town Council.
Notably, the incumbent NRM chairperson, James Olobo Dubai, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Kioga North constituency, has announced his candidacy once again.
The NRM party structure interest form, which began circulating last week, is set to close on Wednesday, 30 April 2025. Following the village-level elections, voters will advance to the parish level, then to the sub-county level, before finally electing the district NRM structure.
This multi-tiered electoral process reflects the party’s commitment to grassroots engagement and democratic principles.
In Dokolo, the race for the NRM district chair position is equally competitive, with five individuals stepping forward to succeed Beatrice Abang Molly Kia, who has been appointed as the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Lira District.
The candidates vying for this role include Sam Brunus Aliga, a journalist with Voice of Lango; Geoffrey Opio Ekong; Alilo Bonny; Opio Barabara; and Ogwang Ambrose Awitong.
With multiple strong contenders in both districts, the upcoming elections promise to be a defining moment for the NRM party and its future leadership.
As the deadline for submission approaches, anticipation builds among party members and constituents alike, eager to see who will emerge victorious in these crucial positions.
