Kole district is grappling with a tragic incident that occurred on May 14, 2025, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Okello Dickens.

The police are actively conducting a thorough investigation into this murder case, which involves mob violence triggered by an alleged theft.

According to reports from SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, spokesperson for the North Kyoga police, the incident began around 4:00 AM when Dickens, a resident of Baro-Owelo ‘B’ village in the neighboring Oyam district, attempted to steal a goat from the home of Akello Molly, a 45-year-old housewife living in Obutu Corner village, Okwerodot subcounty.

Upon hearing disturbances from her property, Molly went outside and discovered Dickens with the goat. Alarmed, she raised a cry for help, attracting the attention of local community members.

In a swift response, residents converged on the scene and apprehended Dickens. Unfortunately, in the ensuing chaos, he was severely beaten by the mob, leading to critical injuries that ultimately resulted in his death.

Eyewitnesses reported that Dickens was found next to his red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UFK 528L, which was later set ablaze by the mob in a fit of anger.

The Kole district authorities have classified this situation as a murder case arising from mob violence, and both the Okwerodot subcounty police station and the Kole central police station have registered the complaint for further investigation.

The police are urging any witnesses or individuals with information related to the events of that morning to come forward to assist with the investigation.

As the community mourns the loss of young life and grapples with the implications of such violent acts, the police remain committed to ensuring justice and preventing similar incidents in the future.
