Police in Agago district have launched a manhunt for a man suspected of assaulting his wife, leading to her death in Barajwa village, Adilang subcounty. The incident occurred on March 6, 2025, following a domestic altercation over charcoal sales.

The deceased, Jenet Atuku, 48, and her husband, Ojera Alex, had earlier burned charcoal in the bush, which they stored in their grass-thatched house before going back to collect more. Unfortunately, the house caught fire, allegedly due to the incomplete extinguishing of the charcoal.

Upon returning home, Ojera attempted to collect the remaining charcoal to sell and buy alcohol, which angered his wife. A heated argument ensued, during which Atuku grabbed Ojera’s shirt, resulting in a scuffle that left his shirt torn. Witnesses allege that Ojera retaliated by striking Atuku on the neck, causing her to collapse unconscious.

Okot Andrew, the Secretary of LC1 Barajwa village, rushed Atuku to Doctor Fargale Hospital in Adilang for medical attention, but she was pronounced dead on arrival. Authorities were immediately notified, and police have since visited the crime scene and transported the deceased’s body to Kalongo Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
