Museveni eulogizes mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo as a pillar of unity

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has paid tribute to the late Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo, father of the former Speaker of Parliament, the late Jacob Oulanyah, describing him as a dedicated elder.

The President’s message was delivered by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa during the burial ceremony on Tuesday at Ayom Lony Village, Omoro District.

Speaking at the interment, General Charles Otema Awany praised Mzee Adiyo for his tireless efforts in promoting harmony between the Lango and Acholi sub-regions.

In his sermon, Bishop Alfred Olwa called on the congregation to celebrate a “life well lived,” characterizing Adiyo as a God-fearing man who successfully balanced his devotion to the church with his responsibilities to the community.

Representing the family, Omoro County MP Andrew Ojok Oulanyah described his grandfather as the glue that held both their family and the wider Acholi community together.

Born on March 11, 1929, Mzee Adiyo lived a life marked by nearly a century of service. He served on the Gulu District Land Board from 1974 to 1979 and later chaired the Lalogi Health Centre III Management Committee for 27 years, from 1963 to 1989.

The burial attracted a high-profile gathering of leaders from across the country, including Chief Justice Emeritus Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, Members of Parliament, district chairpersons from the Acholi sub-region, as well as traditional and religious leaders.
