Police in Oyam District have recovered 40 suspected stolen motorcycle number plates in Minakulu Subcounty.
The police spokesperson for North Kyoga, SP Jimmy Okema, said this followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by Oyam police on 25 November 2025.
Okema said that at approximately 12:50am, acting on credible intelligence, the DPC Oyam, together with his team, proceeded to Ajali Opoo Village, Adel Parish, Minakulu Subcounty, using motor vehicle registration number UP 9680.
He explained that intelligence reports indicated an organised group of criminals had been dismantling and changing the number plates of suspected stolen motorcycles at the residence of Calvin Ayen, a local resident.
According to Okema, upon arrival at the scene, the suspects and the motorcycles had already fled, suggesting they had received prior information about the police operation.
He said a thorough search was conducted within Ayen’s premises and the surrounding area, in the presence of the LC1 Chairperson and neighbours.
The operation led to the recovery of about 40 motorcycle number plates, which were found buried in a banana plantation.

Okema said one box containing spanners and other tools commonly used for dismantling or breaking, along with three bundles of dried opium and other unspecified items associated with criminal activities, were recovered.
He added that a search certificate had been duly issued. No arrests have been made yet, but efforts to apprehend the suspects are ongoing, as some of them are known.
He therefore appealed to community members to always liaise with security authorities to ensure these criminals are arrested and brought to justice.
