Authorities in Kwania District have released details of a 22-year-old student whose body was discovered on Monday afternoon in a swamp along the border between Kwania and Dokolo districts.
The deceased, a Senior Three student at Agwata Secondary School, had reportedly gone to visit his aunt. Patrick Okuja, the LC I Chairperson of Owiny-Itenge Village, Owiny Parish, Ayabi Sub county in Kwania District, said the body was retrieved from Amunga Swamp at the border of Ayabi Sub county in Kwania District and Agwata Town Council in Dokolo District.
He identified the deceased as Lameck Okori, a resident of Alworo Village, Amac Sub county in Lira District. Okori is said to have travelled on 1 February 2026 to visit his aunt, Molly Okello, a resident of Agwata Town Council in Dokolo District. Reports indicate that the deceased had a disagreement with a colleague at his aunt’s home, which escalated into a fight.
Feeling distressed, Okori reportedly fled the house and went into hiding at around 7pm the same day. According to Okuja, his body was discovered by a fisherman who had gone to the swamp to fish. Locals, realising he was a visitor, began searching for his relatives.
John Denis Ebuu, the LC III Chairperson of Ayabi Town Council, said that information available to him indicates the deceased began behaving erratically before fleeing.
He added that the community was shocked upon learning of his death. Ebuu urged parents to be attentive to their children and called on the family to be transparent with the police regarding any underlying health conditions, to assist with the investigation.
By press time, police in Agwata Town Council, Dokolo District, had recovered the deceased’s body and handed it over to relatives for burial, pending further investigations.
